Lebron James, one of the best players the sport has ever seen is just nine points shy of reaching the milestone of 40,000 points scored in his career. The King was originally 74 points away before scoring 34 and 31 points respectively against the LA Clippers and the Washington Wizards on back to back nights.
Following the tiring win over the Washington Wizards, The Kid From Akron spoke to the media about what reaching the exclusive milestone would mean to him.
“I mean, I can’t sit here and say no because, of course, No one has ever done it. And for me to be in this position at this point and time in my career, I think it’s pretty cool. Does it sit at the top of the things I’ve done in my career? No. But does it mean something? Of course. Absolutely. Why wouldn’t it?" said Lebron James.
Lebron contributed heavily to his team's win over both the Clippers and the Wizards. He first led a 19 point comeback in the fourth quarter during 'The Battle Of LA' on Wednesday night before making clutch blocks, drawing charges and draining threes in the overtime vs the Wizards.
“To be able to accomplish things in this league, with the greatest players to ever play in this league, the NBA, this has been a dream of mine and to hit feats and have milestones throughout my career, they all mean something to me. Absolutely. Obviously, there’s a pecking order of which ones are higher than others, but absolutely. I would be lying to you if I said it doesn’t mean anything. Because it absolutely does.” he added.
The Los Angeles Lakers have struggled for the better part of the season but recent changes to the squad which has seen the likes of Austin Reaves, D'Angelo Russell and Rui Hachimura all make their way back into the starting five have left the fans with a glimmer of hope. The team is currently 7-3 in the past ten games as they comfortably sit above the .500 margin but still at 9th place in the Western Conference table.
Lebron James became the all time leading scorer of the NBA when he surpassed Kareem Abdul Jabbar on February 7, 2023. Kareem who was in attendance for the game came on to the court upon the crossing of the threshold and passed on a basketball to Lebron signifying the passing of the crown to the next king.
