3 Players Who Can Replace Stephen Fleming As CSK's Head Coach If He Joins Team India

The BCCI has reportedly approached Stephen Fleming for Team India's head coach job. The veteran IPL coach will have to leave his job at Chennai Super Kings if he joins Team India. Fleming has been the longest-serving coach in IPL's history. He has been with CSK since IPL 2009.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS
  • BCCI has reportedly approached Stephen Fleming to become Team India's head coach
  • Fleming has been with CSK since IPL 2009
  • Fleming will have to leave CSK if he becomes India's coach
Team India is set to have a new head coach soon and the BCCI has already started the process of appointing Rahul Dravid's replacement. The last date to apply for the job is May 27th. VVS Laxman, who looked favourite to replace Dravid, will reportedly not enter the fray. He is expected to continue as the chief of the National Cricket Academy (NCA).
The names of Stephen Fleming and Ricky Ponting are making rounds and one of these two coaches could come on the board. Fleming is the head coach of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) while Ricky Ponting is working with Delhi Capitals (DC).
Fleming, who seems to be favourite for the top job, will have to quit his job at CSK. As the fans wait for an official word from Fleming, here we have a look at 3 players who can replace him as CSK's head coach if he joins Team India -
MS Dhoni
MS Dhoni could be the leading candidate to become Chennai Super Kings' head coach after Stephen Fleming. He has been associated with the franchise since the tournament's inception and has excelled on the captaincy front. Under him, CSK missed out on making it to the playoffs in just one complete season they played under him.
The Yellow Army became a force under Dhoni's leadership and won five IPL trophies. He is likely to continue his association with CSK after his retirement and could join them as their mentor even if Fleming doesn't leave the franchise.
Suresh Raina
Suresh Raina is one of the best players to represent CSK and he became the backbone of their batting lineup that dominated the T20 league. Raina also started his IPL career with CSK and played for them for a long time. He was Dhoni's deputy and also captained them in games that Dhoni missed from IPL 2008 to 2019. Raina hasn't coached an IPL team yet and could start his coaching journey with CSK.
Dwayne Bravo
How about CSK promoting someone from the present coaching staff? Dwayne Bravo joined CSK's coaching staff after retiring from IPL and he is in his second season as their bowling coach. There is no doubting Bravo's credentials and he has played 573 T20s. He has it all to coach a team in the shortest format.
Plus, he has been part of CSK's system for a long time. He joined CSK in 2011 and played for them till his retirement. It will be interesting to see if CSK decide to promote Bravo to the head coach's role or not.
