Babar Azam Needs 48 Runs In 1st T20I To Create History And Become First Captain In The World To...

Pakistan captain Babar Azam is set to create history and break a colossal record during the four-match T20I series against England. Babar Azam is just 48 runs away from becoming the first captain in the world to score 2500 T20I runs as captain. Babar currently has 2452 runs to his name, the most by a captain in T20I cricket.

Babar Azam's return as T20I captain for Pakistan has already seen a few unfavourable results. Pakistan failed to beat a second-string New Zealand team at home and settled for a 2-2 draw. The team also lost to Ireland in the first T20I before bouncing back to win the following two games and the series. Pakistan will have a final chance to find a stable combination when they take on England in a four-match T20I series.
Babar Azam is the backbone of the Pakistan batting and he will head into the England series on the back of some decent form that saw him play knocks of 57 and 75 in the first and third T20I against Ireland respectively. If he can keep form, Babar could shatter some massive T20I records ahead of the T20 World Cup.

Babar Azam On Cusp Of History

Babar Azam is 48 runs shy of becoming the first captain in T20I cricket to score 2500 runs. Babar currently has scored 2452 runs in 79 matches as Pakistan captain, which is already a record for most runs by a captain in T20I cricket. Given Babar Azam's consistency in this format of the game, it is very likely that the milestone will be achieved in the England T20I series.
More so, Babar Azam is chasing Virat Kohli's record for most runs in T20I cricket. To leapfrog Kohli and become the highest run-getter in T20I cricket, Babar needs another 82 runs. Babar currently sits at third in the list of most T20I runs, with 3955. India captain Rohit Sharma is currently at second with 3974 runs. Meanwhile, Babar Azam recently broke the record for most wins as T20I captain after he led Pakistan to a series win over Ireland.
The England vs Pakistan series will get underway on May 22 at Headingley, Leeds. The second T20I will be played on May 25, followed by matches on May 28 and May 30. The World Cup campaign for the Men in Green will kick off on June 6 against the USA. The blockbuster clash with India will take place in New York on June 9, followed by matches against Canada and Ireland on June 11 and 16. Meanwhile, the Pakistan squad for the T20 World Cup is not yet announced. The PCB has confirmed that the squad will be announced on May 23 or May 24.
