Chennai Super Kings star batter Sameer Rizvi, who was signed for Rs 8.40 crore in the IPL 2024 auction that took place in Dubai on December 19, 2023, was on fire for his domestic side Uttar Pradesh against Saurashtra on Monday (February 26) during the first quarterfinal match of the Col CK Nayudu Trophy, which is currently underway at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur. During the first inning of the match, 20-year-old Rizvi, who is leading the UP team, came out to bat at No. 5 and scored 312 runs from 266 balls. Rizvi was signed by the five-time IPL champion in the IPL 2024 auction for a big sum of money after he impressed everyone with his super show in the inaugural edition of the UPT20 league. In 10 matches for the Kanpur Superstars, he scored 455 runs at an average of 50.56 and a strike rate of 188.8. He finished as the leading run-getter for his side and third overall in the tournament.
The Meerut-born cricketer will be seen in action for the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings in the upcoming 2024 season of the IPL. The five-time champions, which won the 2023 edition of the cash-rich league by getting the better of the Gujarat Titans in the final, will face Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore in the first match of IPL 2024 on March 22 at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. CSK’s second match in IPL 2024 is against the Gujarat Titans on March 26 in Chennai again.
