Indian captain Rohit Sharma's T20I comeback turned into a disaster with the bat during the first T20I between India and Afghanistan at the PCA Stadium in Mohali on Thursday (January 11). The Indian skipper failed to distrub the scoreboard after being run-out for a two-ball duck.
In the first over of India's 159-run chase, Rohit tried to take the attack to pacer Fazalhaq Faroqi by stepping down the track. Rohit's off-drive was stopped by Afghanistan captain Ibrahim Zadran with a dive, triggering a brainfade from the Indian opening batting pair with Shubman Gill at fault.
Rohit was quick to call for Shubman to take a single, but the 24-year-old was caught ball-watching. While Rohit almost reached the non-striker's end, Gill did not leave the crease, leading to the Indian captain's dismissal. Rohit was dismissed for a duck for the 11th time in his T20I career.
The Indian captain did not hide his frusation at the dismissal and was evidently furious at Gill. A furious Rohit had an angry outburst at the youngster while backing back to the dressing room.

Gill looked in brilliant touch but failed to make the most of his chance as he was dismissed for a 12-ball 23, leaving India in a spot of bother in the powerplay.
Gill was set to not play the game as coach Rahul Dravid had revealed that Yashasvi Jaiswal would open the innings with Rohit Sharma. However, Jaiswal suffered a sore groin on the day of the match, which allowed Gill to retain the opening spot.
Talking about Rohit, he is playing a T20I game for India for the first time in 14 months. His last appearance for the national team was in the 2022 T20 World Cup semi-final against England.
This series is India's last assignment before the 2024 T20 World Cup in June, which will take place in the West Indies and the United States of America
