Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) young sensation Mayank Yadav created history in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Tuesday (April 2).
Mayank won the Player of the Match (POTM) award for taking three wickets and giving away just 14 runs as LSG defeated RCB by 28 runs. The 21-year-old dismissed Glenn Maxwell, Cameron Green, and Rajat Patidar to rattle the home team.
This was only Mayank's second game in the IPL, with his raw pace catching the eyes of the world. The young pacer from Delhi has created an IPL record for the fastest delivery of the 2024 IPL season with a 156.7 KMPH pacer against RCB. Mayank has now bowled 155 KMPH in two games and is the first player in IPL history to achieve the feat.

Mayank First Player In The World To..

Mayank is the first player in IPL history to win the Player of the Match (POTM) award in each of his first two IPL matches. While 16 players have won the MOTM award on their IPL debuts, the LSG star is the first to do it in both of his first IPL appearances.
On his IPL debut against the Punjab Kings (PBKS), Mayank took three wickets and gave away 27 runs in four overs as the Lucknow-based franchise won the game by 21 runs. He took the wickets of Jonny Bairstow, Prabhsimran Singh, and Jitesh Sharma.
After the match, Mayank expressed his delight at winning the POTM award and revealed his dream of playing for India.
"Feel really good, two Player of the Match awards in two matches. I am happier that we won both the matches. My goal is to play for the country. I feel this is just the start. I enjoyed Cameron Green's wicket the most. There are a lot of factors to bowl quick - diet, sleep, training. I am focusing a lot on my diet and recovery - ice bath," Mayank said in the post-match chat as quoted by Cricbuzz.
LSG skipper KL Rahul reserved big praise for him and praised his patience for the last two years.
"He understands that bowling 155 is not easy and in a young age, he's had a few injuries. He's really professional in looking after his body, it's really good to see and has a great temperament. Enjoying seeing him bowl from probably 20 yards behind the stumps, that's where I'd like to be when he's bowling," said KL Rahul.
