Star Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant was in action for the Delhi Capitals on Friday (April 12) during their IPL 2024 match against the Lucknow Super Giants, which was played at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. In a match that DC won by six wickets, Pant created history. The 26-year-old batter, who is leading the Delhi-based franchise in the IPL 2024, became the first cricketer in the world to score 3000 runs for the Delhi Capitals in the IPL.
Rishabh needed nine runs to achieve the milestone before the start of the match, and he achieved the objective by scoring 41 runs from 24 balls. During his stay at the crease, the left-handed batter smacked four fours and two sixes. He added 77 runs for the third wicket with Jake Fraser-McGurk, who scored 55 runs from 35 balls on his IPL debut.
Thanks to Pant and Jake Fraser-McGurk's knock, Delhi chased down the target of 168 runs in 18.1 overs for the loss of four wickets to secure a second win in the IPL 2024, and with that, it jumped to No. 9 position in the IPL 2024 points table.
Pant, who has been associated with the Delhi Capitals since the start of his IPL career in 2016, missed the last edition of the cash-rich league due to multiple injuries he suffered in a road accident on December 30, 2022. Since making his comeback into competitive cricket with the IPL 2024, Pant has been in red-hot form and has scored 194 runs in six matches with a strike rate of 157.72.
He is in sixth place on the list of leading run scorers in IPL 2024 and has put himself in contention for a place in India’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad.
In the list of leading run scorers for Delhi Capitals in IPL history, Pant is on top with 3032 runs from 104 matches, followed by David Warner (2549 runs), former captains Shreyas Iyer (2375), Virender Sehwag (2174), and senior Indian opening batter Shikhar Dhawan (2066).
