Who Will Win IPL 2024? Why History Suggests KKR Or SRH Are Likely To Win The Title Over RCB And RR

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) will have the weight of history behind them during the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) playoffs in their pursuit of winning the trophy. If the past is anything to go by, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are the favorites to win the 2024 IPL title.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS
  • KKR Will face SRH in the first qualifier
  • RCB will take on RR
  • SRH and KKR are favourites to win the IPL title
The 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) is in its last week, and only four teams are still alive in the competition, with the trophy going to eight of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Rajasthan Royals (RR), and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RR) ahead of the playoffs set to begin at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday (21).
All eyes are on who will play the final on Sunday (May 26) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. While KKR is looking to win a historic third title, both SRH and RR are looking to win the trophy for the second time. Meanwhile, RCB will aim to end a 17-year-old wait and win the trophy for the first time in history.
So who will win IPL 2024? If history is anything to go by, KKR and SRH hold a big edge and are favorites to win the tournament. Having finished first and second in the table, the two sides will play each other in the first qualifier and have two chances of making the final. On the other hand, there is no roam for error for RR and RCB, who have to win three games in the space of five days.

Why IPL History Suggests KKR Or SRH Are Favourites for IPL 2024 Table Over RCB and RR?

Ever since the IPL did away with the semi-final system and introduced the playoffs in 2011, the teams to play the first qualifier have lifted the trophy in 12 of the 13 seasons. The only exception came in 2016, when SRH beat RCB in the final. In fact, the teams that have finished either 3rd or 4th in the table have made the final only three times in the last 13 years.

For those unversed, the winner of the SRH-KKR clash will advance directly to the final, while the loser will face the winner of the RR-RCB match in the second qualifier, where the second finalist will be decided.
For the first three seasons, the IPL followed a normal semi-final format in which the first-placed team faced the team fourth on the table while the teams second and third were on the table.'
