Manchester City showcased their dominance once again as they lifted their fourth Premier League title on a trot. Pep Guardiola’s side demolished West Ham United 3-1 as they crushed Arsenal’s hopes to be crowned the Premier League champions for the first time in the last 20 years.
City needed to win as they were two points adrift of Arsenal who left it late as the title race went down the wire same as last season. City crashed out of the Champions League as Real Madrid came down to haunt them again in the semifinals.
But they still stand the chance to win a double as they are also scheduled to face Manchester United in the FA Cup final later this month. Pep Guardiola’s current deal is poised to expire in 2025 and if the manager honours his contract he will have spent nine years at the Etihad Stadium.
There haven’t been any contract talks yet and the manager will enter the final year of his contract next season. He has already stamped his authority on English soil with his managerial masterclass but the former Barcelona manager reveals his mindset following City’s record-breaking Premier League haul.
“We have talked with the club — my feeling is that I want to stay now. I will stay next season and during the season we will talk. But eight or nine years — we will see.”
“We competed incredibly well again and at the end, for a little margin, we won it, we did it ... We have done something incredible,” he said, lavishing praise on his players.
“If I landed here tomorrow and they would say that in the next seven years, you will win six Premier Leagues, I would say ‘are you crazy?’
Guardiola’s team also could break another record as they could be on the verge of recording a domestic double. They lifted the Premier League and FA Cup last season and the road seems to be pretty clear this time as it stands.
