?'We Are Working To..', Harmanpreet Singh Says India Have Taken Note Of Flaws In Game Ahead Of Olympics

Last month, India, the Tokyo Olympics bronze medallists, lost all their games to the Kookaburras, raising doubts about their preparations for the Paris Games later this year. But drag-flicker Harmanpreet Singh said that the team has done a lot of high-intensity training and the confidence in the squad continues to grow.

Indian men's hockey team captain Harmanpreet Singh has said that his side is working to be in the best possible shape for the Paris Olympics. They have identified areas that required attention after a humiliating 0-5 loss to the mighty Aussies last month and are all set for the European leg of the FIH Pro League, which is going to be far from easy.
Last month, India, the Tokyo Olympics bronze medallists, lost all their games to the Kookaburras, raising doubts about their preparations for the Paris Games later this year. But drag-flicker Harmanpreet said that the team has done a lot of high-intensity training.
India will play against Argentina, Belgium, Germany and Great Britain twice each across both legs of the Pro League, starting their campaign against Argentina on May 22.
"We are in the last stages of an intense training block right now. The team has worked on the areas we felt needed attention after the tour of Australia," Harmanpreet said in a Hockey India release.
"Soon, we will head to Europe to play some essential matches in the Pro League 2023/24 to test ourselves against some tough opponents like Argentina, Belgium, Germany, and Great Britain," Harmanpreet added.
India will start their Olympic campaign against New Zealand on Saturday, July 27. The other sides in Pool B are Belgium, Australia, Argentina, and Ireland.
Pool A comprises the Netherlands, Germany, Great Britain, Spain, South Africa and hosts France. India vice-captain Hardik Singh said that the experience of stalwarts like goalkeeper PR Sreejesh and former skipper Manpreet Singh has come in handy while preparing youngsters for Paris.
"The team is leaving no stone unturned in our endeavour to change the colour of our previous medal and clinch gold at the Olympics this time. We have players like PR Sreejesh and Manpreet Singh who could be playing their fourth Olympics along with quite a few players who could be playing their third Olympics, including our captain," Hardik said.
"Their experience has been instrumental in moulding some of the younger players we have in the squad right now. Only 75 days remain for the Paris Olympics and we cannot wait to begin our Olympic journey," Hardik added.
India are placed third in the Pro League points table, with 15 points from eight games. Taking charge of the team will be skipper Harmanpreet. Meanwhile, dynamic midfielder Hardik has been named his deputy.
