‘The People’s Champ’ is a name synonym with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and on many occasions the WWE legend has lived up to it. A recent example of it was his heart-warming gesture towards UFC fighter Themba T L Gorimbo, whom he gifted a fully-furnished house after the latter claimed he was “homeless.”
The entire thing was shot in a video, which turned out to be a massive hit among fans. The two-year old video has resurfaced on the internet, also drawing a reaction from the WWE superstar himself.
Sharing the video on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), The Rock penned a special message for Themba, calling him an inspiration. “This man @TheAnswerMMA is a very special human being. Themba is committed to three things: His family, his village and people in Africa, and becoming world champion in the @ufc . What an inspiration he is. Rooting for him all the way,” his tweet read.
Themba, who hails from Zimbabwe, has built a special connection with The Rock after revealing he only had $7 in his account. Themba highlighted his financial plight after securing his first win in the UFC, which was in May 2023.
The story resonated strongly with the WWE legend, who too experienced the same while enduring setbacks one after the other during his days in professional football. On that note, The Rock, who is the co-founder of ‘Seven Bucks Productions,’ promised to help Themba and has since been his biggest motivator.
Themba made his UFC debut in February 2023 and aspires to be a UFC champion. He currently holds a 2-1 record and took significant strides towards his aspirations after dishing out one of the finest performance of his career at UFC Vegas 85, which was held earlier this month. The Zimbabwean took just 32 seconds to end his opponent Pete Rodriguez and finished the bout with a TKO victory.
Themba also shared a post on Instagram dedicated to The Rock following the win, which featured a video call between the two. “Don’t make me cry next time before a fight my brother. @therock. Thank you brother. Pay it forward," read Themba’s caption.
The Rock also acknowledged Themba’s jaw-dropping performance and congratulated the UFC star on his dominating win. "Incredible win my brother. We’re all so proud of you. Keep climbing that mountain and inspiring everyone along the way. Congrats to you, your coaches and TEAM. Love U," he then wrote on the comment section.
