  • Babar Azam's captaincy has been heavily criticized.
  • A former opener has slammed the PAK captain.
Pakistan have had a disastrous start to the T20 World Cup 2024 as they lost their first two matches of the tournament against USA and India. They now face Canada, with their chances of qualifying for the Super 8 stages hanging by a thread. Babar Azam, who was reinstated as Pakistan's T20I captain months after he relinquished the post, has been criticized for his leadership in the tournament. Former Pakistan opener Ahmed Shehzad has now slammed Babar for his captaincy in the tournament after the 6-run loss to India.
In an interaction with ARY news, Ahmed Shahzad slammed Babar Azam saying how can he claim to be the world's best player, when 1400 of his T20I runs have come in losing causes.
"You claim to be the world's best player. Explain to me how your 1400 runs come from losing matches. What kind of king or No. 1 batsman has 1400 runs and ranks No. 3 in the world, but his team loses whenever he scores? Aise king ka main kya karu? (What is the use of such a king?)," he said.
He also slammed the Pakistan team for highlighting the minor achievements on players on social media and accused them of fooling the Pakistani public.
"You have highlighted minor achievements on social media so much that you have fooled the Pakistani public," Shehzad added.
Ahmed Shehzad slammed PCB for using young players who need grooming and making them criticized on social media. He took the example of Azam Khan and Saim Ayub who were left alone. He said that any player who plays two domestic matches and reports and injury goes out.
"You use young players who need grooming and make them criticized on social media. Look at Saim Ayub and Azam Khan. You left Azam Khan alone. Any player who plays two domestic matches reports an injury and goes out. But when PSL and Pakistan cricket come, they get fit again," he said.
"You stayed stubborn and didn't improve with time. Because of this, where has the cricket of the world gone? And where has your cricket gone?" he added.

Pakistan Lose Vs India

India were bundled out for 119 batting first against Pakistan. Rishabh Pant, who top-scored for his side, kept riding his luck before getting dismissed for 42. The famed Indian batting line-up succumbed under pressure as Axar Patel (20), Suryakumar Yadav (7), Shivam Dube (3), Rohit Sharma (13), and Virat Kohli (4) along with Hardik Pandya (7) and Ravindra Jadeja (0) failed to make significant contributions. Naseem Shah was the star of the show with 3 wickets.
However, Pakistan stuttered in their chase of 120, even after getting a good start. Japsrit Bumrah led the charge for India with three wickets, with Hardik Pandya picking 2 scalps, as Pakistan lost the game by 6 runs.
