EXPLAINED: How There Can Be Another India Vs Pakistan Match In T20 World Cup 2024

Fans would be clamouring for more games between the two sides, as the arch-rivals seldom face each other now, that too in big ICC and ACC tournaments. There is a slim chance that both India and Pakistan can once again face each other in the T20 World Cup 2024 itself.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS
  • India defeated Pakistan by 6 runs in the T20 World Cup 2024.
  • There is chance that the two can face once again in the tournament.
  • For that, Pakistan need to qualify for the Super 8 stage first.
India and Pakistan faced each other in an electric encounter on June 9 in the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Nassau County Stadium in New York. It was Rohit Sharma and his team, who were victorious on this occasion in a low-scoring thriller. Fans would be clamouring for more games between the two sides, as the arch-rivals seldom face each other now, that too in big ICC and ACC tournaments. There is a slim chance that both India and Pakistan can once again face each other in the T20 World Cup 2024 itself.
Pakistan have two games remaining in the T20 World Cup 2024 group stage. If they somehow manage to reach the Super 8 stage, then they will placed as the second placed team in Group A (A2). They will be placed in the group alongside B2, C1 and D2. If Pakistan manage to finish top of this Super 8 group, and India finish second in their Super 8 group, then they will face each other in the semi-final in Guyana. This will be the similar case if India finish top of their Super 8 group while Pakistan finish second in theirs.
If both teams finish top of their respective Super 8 groups, then they will play two separate semi-finals. In that case, both teams will need to win their matches, and fans will get to see an India vs Pakistan final at Bridgetown, Barbados on June 29.
However, Pakistan need to qualify for the Super 8 stages, in order for one of these scenarios to play out.

How Pakistan Can Qualify For Super 8

Pakistan are yet to register a single point on the board in the T20 World Cup 2024 having lost to USA and India in their opening two games. Hence, the Men in Green need to win both their remaining matches to register 6 points on the board and have a chance to qualify for the Super Eight stage. A loss in any one of their two remaining matches against Canada and Ireland would mean they would be knocked out of the tournament.
However, either USA or India need to lose both their remaining games so that they are level on points with Pakistan, if the Men in Green win two of their remaining games. If both India and USA win of their two remaining games, then Pakistan will get knocked out of the tournament.
