Former Mumbai Indians All-Rounder Replaces Dale Steyn As SRH's Bowling Coach: Report

A former Mumbai Indians all-rounder has replaced Dale Steyn as the bowling coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad for IPL 2024. Steyn has taken a break from the upcoming IPL season. The right-arm pacer had joined SRH before IPL 2022 and worked with the team for two years.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will be without the services of their bowling coach, Dale Steyn for IPL 2024. The legendary pacer has reportedly taken a break from the season. Steyn had joined the Orange Army before IPL 2022 and he had a two-year stint with the franchise. Steyn could return for IPL 2025. With Steyn out, SRH have signed a former Mumbai Indians (MI) all-rounder as their bowling coach.
ESPNcricinfo has reported that James Franklin has joined SRH as the new bowling coach for the season. Franklin will make his IPL coaching debut in the upcoming season. The left-arm bowler has worked with Daniel Vettori, who is the head coach of SRH, in past.
Franklin played 20 matches for Mumbai Indians across two IPL seasons. He scored 327 runs and scalped 9 wickets. Franklin had a long career for New Zealand and he played 31 Tests, 110 ODIs and 38 T20Is. The 43-year-old played his last game for NZ in 2013.
Meanwhile, there is also a report of SRH naming a new captain for IPL 2024. Cricbuzz has reported that the franchise could name Pat Cummins as its new captain for the season. The right-arm pacer captained Australia to a title win in the 2023 World Cup in India.
Few months before the WC, Australia defeated India in the final to win the 2023 World Test Championship. An official announcement regarding the captaincy change could be made soon.
SRH will kick off their IPL 2024 campaign against Kolkata Knight Riders on March 23 in an away game. They will face Hardik Pandya-led Mumbai Indians in their second game on March 27. The fixture will be played at SRH's home in Hyderabad.
SRH will take on Shubman Gill's Gujarat Titans in their third game in Ahmedabad on March 31. They will return to Hyderabad to host Chennai Super Kings on April 5. SRH last won the IPL trophy in 2016.
