Luckow Super Giants suffered a 19-run defeat against Delhi Capitals to put their IPL 2024 playoff chances in jeopardy. LSG were hot favourites to book a berth in the playoffs, however, they ran out of form and lost three back-to-back games. The KL Rahul-led side now need to win the final game against Mumbai Indians by a massive margin to have any hopes of reaching the playoffs. The team would also need RCB to beat CSK so that both teams stay on 14 points and ensure they have a better run rate than both RCB and CSK. Having restricted Delhi Capitals to 208-4, LSG would have expected to hunt down the target but the team could only score 189-9 and suffered a big defeat.
LSG rely heavily on KL Rahul in terms of getting the team off to a great start, however, Rahul failed to create any impact with the bat and was dismissed for a mere five runs in the crucial IPL 2024 game. The batting order crumbled to pressure and barring Nicholas Pooran, who scored 61, none of the batters showed any resistance as DC picked a comprehensive win. Arshad Khan played a whirlwind innings of 58 in 33 balls late in the innings but the damage was already done as DC held their nerves to fetch a comfortable win.
Meanwhile, Sanjiv Goenka's reaction to KL Rahul's wicket is going viral on social media. For the unversed, Goenka was under fire after the video of him lashing out at KL Rahul went viral on social media.
KL Rahul reflected on the defeat against Delhi Capitals and hailed the Porel-Hope partnership to help DC post a formidable total. The duo added 92 runs for the second wicket after DC lost Jake Frazer McGurk for a duck. Rahul acknowledged that 209 was an achievable total and LSG should have chased it down. He rued losing wickets in the powerplay as one of the key reasons for LSG's poor show in IPL 2024.
"I feel the wicket remained the same throughout the 40 overs. When we got JFM out in the first over we should have capitalized, but they - Hope and Porel - showed a lot of intent. We did well at the back end and 200 was a par total, we should have chased it down. This has been a problem right through the season - we keep losing a lot of wickets in the powerplay, we never get a solid start to get the likes of Stoinis and Pooran in, that is the big reason why we are in this position," said KL Rahul after the match.
