Royal Challengers Bengaluru stare at an early exit from the playoff race after a horrific IPL 2024. RCB are placed last on the points table with six defeats in seven matches. They lost to SRH in the last game after conceding the highest-ever score in IPL history - 287. RCB's bowling has been a major worry this season, however, it is not something that was not expected.
RCB's move to drop Josh Hazlewood and Wanindu Hasaranga ahead of the auction was questionable, but it was expected the franchise would bolster the attack in the IPL Auction. However, instead of going after some reliable bowling options, RCB invested heavily in Alzarri Joseph, Lockie Ferguson, Yash Dayal, and Tom Curran. They also did not get a match-winning spinner in the squad. The team was bound to struggle but even RCB's critics might not have imagined them in the state they are at the moment.
Another concern for RCB has been the lack of runs from the overseas trio of Cameron Green, Faf du Plessis, and Glenn Maxwell, leaving RCB in massive trouble. Virat Kohli and Dinesh Karthik have carried the burden of RCB, scoring 361 runs, including a hundred and a couple of fifties, and 226 runs respectively, but that is just not enough in a competitive tournament like IPL.
RCB need to string together a few wins in coming matches to get their campaign back on track. They will take on the dangerous Kolkata Knight Riders in their next match at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Maxwell is struggling with poor form and injury thus he will be unavailable for the clash against KKR. RCB, however, would want to bolster their batting thus there is a good chance that Cameron Green could return to the team, with Reece Topley making way. Also, Mohammed Siraj could make a return to the playing XI after being dropped from the last game.
Speaking about RCB's playing XI, Virat Kohli and Faf Du Plessis will continue to open while Will Jacks should retain his No.3 slot despite a poor start to the season. Rajat Patidar could be slotted in at No.4, followed by Cameron Green at five. Anuj Rawat and Dinesh Karthik should be the following two batters. Mohammed Siraj should return for Yash Dayal while V Vyshak, Akash Deep, and Lockie Ferguson should be the other pacers in the team. Karn Sharma Or Mayank Dagar could be the impact player as can be used as a spinner.
RCB Likely Playing XI vs KKR: Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis, Will Jacks, Rajat Patidar, Cameron Green, Dinesh Karthik, Anuj Rawat V Vyshak, Mohammed Siraj, Lockie Ferguson, Akash Deep
Impact Player: Karn Sharma/Mayank Dagar
