Star Indian spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, who is the highest wicket-taker in Indian Premier League (IPL) history, has made his predictions about the upcoming 2024 season of the IPL. In a video going viral on the internet, when Chahal, who hasn’t played for India since August 13, 2023, was asked about the winner of the Orange Cap in the IPL 2024, he ignored last year's winner Shubman Gill and batting superstar Virat Kohli to pick two of his Rajasthan Royals teammates.
According to the 33-year-old cricketer, one of Yashasvi Jaiswal or Jos Buttler will win the Orange Cap in IPL 2024. In the IPL, the Orange Cap is awarded to the highest run scorer of the tournament. England’s white-ball captain, Buttler, won the Orange Cap in the 2022 season of the cash-rich league. That year, he scored 863 runs in 17 matches for the Sanju Samson-led side.
Jaiswal, who is in red-hot form these days, was on fire in IPL 2023, and in 14 matches, the left-handed batter scored 624 runs, which was a record for most runs scored in an IPL season by an uncapped batter. Looking at his current form in international cricket, the Indian opener will be among the favourites to finish as the leading run-getter in the IPL this year.
Chahal, who has 187 wickets to his name in 145 matches, was also asked about the Purple Cap winner, and in reply, he mentioned his name first before adding that if not him, then Rashid Khan will take the most wickets. Afghanistan spinner Rashid is part of the Gujarat Titans team in the IPL 2024. In the 2023 edition of the IPL, the 25-year-old cricketer picked up 27 wickets in 17 matches for the Hardik Pandya-led side.
The 2024 season of the IPL is set to start on March 22. In the first match, defending champions CSK will face Royal Challengers Bangalore at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
