KEY HIGHLIGHTS
  • Pakistan will host New Zealand in 2nd T20I on Saturday (April 20)
  • The fixture will be played in Rawalpindi
  • Babar Azam is back as Pakistan's captain
Pakistan and New Zealand will square off in the 2nd T20I of the five-match series on Saturday (April 20). The fixture will be played at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi from 8:00 PM IST. Babar Azam is back in the leadership group and is leading the home team in the series. He stepped down as Pakistan's all-format captain after the 2023 ODI World Cup.
Shan Masood was named Pakistan's Test captain while Shaheen Afridi was named the T20I captain. Shaheen's stint as the captain lasted just one series and he was sacked. He is playing under Babar in the ongoing series.
Michael Bracewell is leading New Zealand in the absence of first-choice players. NZ's IPL-bound players are in India for IPL 2024 and are missing the ongoing series. They have often preferred IPL over international cricket and missed many series in past as well.
NZ have many inexperienced players in their ranks and they have their task cut out against the 2009 T20 World Cup Champions.
The first T20I of the series played at the same venue was washed out due to rain. A play of only two balls was possible in the previous game. Shaheen Afridi managed to take a wicket and dismissed Tim Robinson on the second ball before the rain arrived.
Both teams are unlikely to make any changes to their playing XI. It also means no place for Imad Wasim in the playing XI. He was surprisingly kept on the bench in the series opener.
Mohammad Amir made his return to Pakistan after four years and played the first game. But he didn't get a chance to bowl. The left-arm pacer had retired from international cricket in 2020. He moved to the UK after his retirement but is now back for the Men in Green.
